Council unveils renewable energy scheme at Llanbradach site

News | | Published: 17:00, Thursday June 2nd, 2016.

Caerphilly County Borough Council has unveiled a renewable energy generator at Trehir Landfill Site, near Llanbradach.

The new scheme hosts a 50KW electrical generation plant, and aims to deliver enough renewable energy to the National Grid to power 127 homes.

The project, developed by Alphagen Renewables, involves capturing methane from the council’s former disposal site in Trehir.

The generator itself will save the equivalent of around 2,700 tonnes of CO2 per year being released to the atmosphere.

Cllr Nigel George, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, said: “This eco-friendly scheme is capturing a valuable resource and converting it into electricity for the National Grid.

“It is another example of how Caerphilly County Borough Council continues to support the well-being of our future generations through innovative environmental projects.”
