At around 1.10am on Wednesday, June 15, officers from Gwent Police stopped a vehicle near Brynhyfryd, Caerphilly, to check the car and driver – but it then drove off.
A seven-minute car chase then followed, reaching speeds of up to 78mph. The car headed along The Crescent in Trecenydd and eventually down a narrow footpath underneath a railway tunnel towards Bryncenydd.
The chase came to an end when the car got wedged inside the tunnel.
Area Support Inspector Gavin Clifton said: “A 27-year-old man from the Caerphilly area has now been charged for dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving whilst disqualified, failing to provide blood sample for analysis and driving without insurance.
“He has now been bailed and will appear in Newport Magistrates’ Court next month.”

In these types of road traffic offences where the driver is driving whilst disqualified, or with no insurance or road tax the car should be taken from them and crushed, providing it is not a stolen car of course.
Examples of this sort of extreem and inconsiderate driving can be seen every evening of the week in Caerphilly Town, Just one resident tells the tale of the six or seven times, in as many days he has almost been knocked off his feet whilst crossing the road on the Zebra crossing adjacent to the new library. And there is no doubt that you take your life in your own hands if you try to Cross Cardiff Road in the town anytime during the working day.
No proactive Police attention to these issues, the result? the cretins involved think they can do what they like, when they like and how they like and sod everyone else.
Thank you Paul for bringing attention to this, they have a complete disregard for people’s lives Jim Pritchard
Is that the one between Trecenydd and Bryncenydd or the one between Energlyn and Churchill park? Because the latter would be an understandable choice in a panic situation but the former is not only narrow but ends in an even narrower 90* right turn. Then again we are not dealing with rocket scientists here.
