DIY retailer B&Q has installed a car park barrier at its Caerphilly store to stop “boy racers” from gathering at the site.

The barrier’s installation has been welcomed by residents and councillors, after they raised the issue of antisocial behaviour with store bosses at the Gallagher Retail Park premises.

B&Q store manager Karl Perry said “We have seen a great difference since the installation. The volume of litter in and around the car park has reduced significantly, coupled with no usage for either car meets or unsociable behaviour on the car park outside of trading hours.”

Local councillors James Pritchard and Shayne Cook praised B&Q for listening to the concerns of local residents.

In a joint statement, they said “We thank B&Q for acting to restrict unauthorised access to the store’s car park.”

It is a pity that these measures have to be taken and somebody has to unnecessarily spend money because some folk don’t know how to behave themselves and have respect for their surroundings. Once of a day young men and woman could meet up in a car park somewhere to socialise and admire each others cars without acting like idiots, causing a nuisance and leaving masses of litter all over the place, what went wrong?

Not in my day. I was just as bad as these lads screaming around in my hot hatch at crazy speeds only to pull the handbrake for the upcoming turn. My dad used to do it on a bsa. Not defending it just saying it’s been going on for a long time. Once upon a time I imagine it was bounders on penny farthings and before that scoundrels on ponies. Measures have to be taken to curtail it but it’s not a mystery just youthful exuberance.

My budget wouldn’t stretch to a hot hatch, not even a luke warm hatch, I could only ever dream of a GTE, RS1600, XR3, GT Turbo, SR, or the legend that is the Pug 1.9GTI.

Had three of them and others. Killed every one of them, including the pug.
