Thousands of runners are to descend on Caerphilly town centre on Sunday, June 19, for the annual 10k race.
A number of temporary road closures will be in place to accommodate the event.
Residents and visitors to the town on the day are being advised that a number of roads will operate either full or part road closures from 7am until approximately 1pm.
The start/finish line is located on Crescent Road, which will be partially closed from Nantgarw Road to the junction with Heol Trecastell estate from 7am to 1pm, and fully closed between 9am and 1pm.
Cardiff Road through the town centre itself will be closed between 9.00am and 12pm, and the road leading from the Bedwas Bridge roundabout to Van Road will be fully closed between 9.30am and 12pm, while Piccadilly Square (Piccadilly Lights) will be fully closed from 9.00am until 10.15am.
Pontygwindy Road will be closed between 9.30am and 10.45am, and the road between the Pwll-y-Pant roundabout and Bedwas Bridge roundabout will be closed to eastbound traffic from 9.00am until 11.30am.
Access will remain available between Lansbury Park and Mornington Meadows estates throughout.
Due to the nature of the event and the diversions in place, there will also be some delays and some bus stops will not be served by a number of bus routes.
Caerphilly Interchange and bus stops at Southgate Square, Castle Entrance and Ton-y-felin Chapel will not be in use until after 12pm. Before 12pm all buses on routes 26, 50, C16, A, B & C will use the bus stop at Castle Court Bandstand and resume their routes at Piccadilly Square or Bedwas Road.

The car park at Twyn Primary School and the Y Gwyndy campus (former St Ilan site) will be available for residents of Van Road and Pontygwindy Road to park.

I parked up the side and encouraged others to do so. Plenty haven’t.
A briiliant plan to keep mobile, But, which side of the `closed` roads do you park?, now there`s a problem.
And the jobsworths manning the closed junctions, are one dimentionally trained, and are not able to excercise any additional brain cells to those they were programmed with by CCBC event staff.
This jobsworth attitude does the local public image of the Caerphilly CBC no favours, a little tweek here and there in the planning of these events is all it would take keep EVERYONE happy, but, as I have already said, we must do as we are told by officers of the Council, because, ??? they think they know best.
The County Council elections are being held next year, and these ever increasing council inspired inconveniences will be an issue in residents minds when they cast thier votes.
One very good point to make; The Gwent police stayed clear of all the organisational and public facing presentation of this event, thier hands are clean.
Wonderful event, well organised and a peasure to hand the town of Caerphilly over to these people who love to run the roads keeping fit, fighting obesity and putting up the sale of spring water by 1,000% compared to any other Sunday.
Roads were closed for the minimum of time, people were late for work, but that`s their fault for not changing thier reutine to fit in with this event.
I think now that we have, The Christmas Fare, The Food Fare, the Fun Run, The other major Street running event, The Bike Ride, and The Big Cheese,I dont see why the town centre residents dont hand over the town to further organised events and stay home all weekend whilst they are off work, inconsiderate killjoys, and for those who may want to get to work using thier cars, they must see that it is down to them to make the arrangement to do so, on a Sunday, and those with severe mobility problems can stay in the house and not disrupt these wonderful activities on such event days, and if they can`t ride a bike or run a road race who do they think they are commenting on it, they can keep their complaints and concerns to themselves and let the rest enjoy themselves
Like Pete, if people did`nt see this coming and make `arrangments to change their normal reutines for their convenience then it is their fault, and dont go complaining on this media. Cheek!!! we`ve all had enough of that last year, and you must learn your lessons, The Caerphilly Council Event Staff say so, so it must be right.
Every time Ref.
Are you missing the irony of my position?
No I got it. It was a play on words.
Fantastic event, very well organised and great to see huge numbers out on the street setting personal goals. Nice to see most of the Caerphilly public out clapping, cheering and also offering sweets / water to the runners taking part, The rest of you windgers should try getting off your fat butts and perhaps giving it a go yourself next year instead of complaining about an event that has been advertised for months…..As for those who had care needs my Nan had her carer ride to her house, wow imagine that…..Its called plan ahead….
Here Here, But incorrect on one important point, most of the `Caerphilly public`, were at home enjoying a Sunday Lunch, not out `clapping and cheering and offering sweets and water to the runners`. most of the people on the streets were running club members cheering on colleagues, nothing wrong with that of course, but your comments are a misrepresentation. the streets were awash with strangers to the town, nothing wrong with that either, but if this was such a sucess there should be no need for you to misrepresent it.
