A skip lorry driver managed to avoid disaster and pulled over safely when one of his tyres suffered a blowout.

The lorry was being driven along the A472 in Pontllanfraith on Saturday, July 2, at around 12.30pm when the driver felt the tyre go. He pulled the vehicle over and called the police.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said there no injuries to the driver and added: “The lorry was escorted by a police officer to a nearby Industrial Estate so the tyre could be replaced in safety.

“Just one lane was closed due to the lorry causing an obstruction.”
