Caerphilly town pub to hold cider festival

Cider lovers will be able to enjoy a wide-ranging selection of draught craft ciders from across the UK during a Caerphilly pub’s 17-day festival.

Held at The Malcolm Uphill Wetherspoons on Cardiff Road, the festival will see the pub serve a range of 30 ciders from Friday July 8 until Sunday July 24.

Included in the selection are draughts not previously available in the pub, and others produced exclusively for the festival.

They include award-winning ciders, a cider made with sloe berries and a cider matured in oak vats.

In addition, the pub will be serving Down Down cider – produced by Celtic Marches – in collaboration with rock group Status Quo.

Customers can enjoy three one-third pints of cider for the price of a single pint – £3.05.

Tasting notes on all of the ciders will be available in the pub.
Manager John Stephens said: “The Malcolm Uphill will be offering a superb selection of ciders during the 17 day festival. We are confident that they will appeal to cider lovers and those enjoying cider for the first time.”

This Town Centre public house is a haven of Homophobic discrimination; displayed by one or even two staff members. The respected Local LGBT community shun this establishment for fear of being singled out for unwelcome comment and attention, or misleading understanding of equality.

Whilst it is accepted that the pub`s managment is unquestionably first class in most respect it fails to address the problems of discrimination by one or two staff members. Until there is a rebalancing of respect and mindset by those staff who do not understand that discrimination of the sort mentioned here, or indeed any
form of discrimination, is illegal, the not inconsiderable pink pound in Caerphilly is lost to Wetherspoons.

Contrast the above comment with another headline story on this page;-

“Caerphilly County Borough Council recognised for its work in promoting LGBT equality”

Good luck with the Cider sales.
