Leanne Wood to hold public meeting in Blackwood

News | | Published: 06:12, Thursday July 14th, 2016.

Plaid Cymu leader Leanne Wood will visit Blackwood on Thursday evening to hold a public meeting about the way forward for Wales following the result of the EU referendum.

At the meeting, being held in Blackwood Rugby Club at 7pm on Thursday, July 14, Ms Wood will discuss the way forward for the nation and how to secure the best possible deal for Wales as the UK’s exit from the EU is negotiated.

Ms Wood said: “The referendum result has sent shockwaves through the British political landscape. Constitutionally, culturally and economically, now more than ever it’s vital we make sure Wales isn’t forgotten or left behind.

“Whilst disappointed with the Referendum result, it’s important that we accept it, and vitally we now react to it by looking at every option to help guarantee Wales’ prosperity, as well as ensure we continue to benefit from our ties with Europe.

“All of us, whether we voted in or out, should be prepared to be bold and confident in being able to forge a new, strong, inclusive, outward-looking future for our nation.”

Plaid Cymru AM for the South Wales East, Steffan Lewis, said: “While other political parties are consumed by infighting, Leanne Wood has been touring the nation setting out her vision for Wales’ future.

“In a time of political uncertainty, it is more important than ever to have a plan in place for our nation so we don’t lose out. That includes fighting for every penny of the extra funding promised to Wales by the Leave campaign in the run up to the referendum.

“This is an opportunity for people in Gwent to have their say about what’s important for Wales as the UK’s exit from the EU is negotiated. I’m looking forward to welcoming Leanne Wood to Blackwood.”

She would be better off working with the Welsh Assemby Labour Government on ensuring that future financial settlements from London are at least preserved, including all the EU financial advantages previously enjoyed, or bettered.

I suppose there is some milage in meeting her depleting membership to try to encourage them to continue to support a lost political cause. Perhaps they can talk about Football, it appears high on the to do list of Steffan Lewis according to his first important blog submission on these pages.
