UPDATE: Large fire at recycling plant on Newtown Industrial Estate in Crosskeys extinguished

Update: South Wales Fire and Rescue Services crews have extinguished the fire. An investigation into the cause of the fire will take place.

Residents have been told to keep their windows and doors closed because of thick black smoke billowing from a large fire currently being fought at an industrial estate in Crosskeys.

Crews from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called at 6.54am today, Thursday, August 11, to the Newtown Industrial Estate. There are currently four appliances and and two water bowsers currently at the scene tackling the blaze.

A large amount of recycling refuse and metal at Newtown Industrial Estate is well alight.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said they received 21 emergency calls from members of the public.
