A charity Elvis tribute night is being held at Oakdale Rugby Club to raise money to pay for the village’s Christmas lights.
Due to cutbacks from Caerphilly County Borough Council last year, funding for Christmas lights across towns and villages was pulled.
While some community and town councils managed to find the funds to trim-up, others were left with no alternative.
Oakdale was one such village without Christmas lights last year.
Resident Dawn Watkins, who has organised the fundraiser at Oakdale Rugby Club, said: “We had no lights last year and when Father Christmas visited, the children said it didn’t feel like Christmas.
“We recently had a family fun day which raised £180, but we need to raise £1,500.”
Ms Watkins praised Oakdale Rugby Club for its generosity in supporting the cause by paying for the Elvis tribute act and the printing of flyers, meaning funds raised will go towards the Christmas lights.
Elvis tribute act Darren Graceland Jones, who is one of the UK’s top Elvis artists, will be taking the stage at the rugby club tonight at 7.30pm. Entry is £4 on the door.
