A young star from Abertridwr will be making his television debut in the second series of BBC drama Poldark, currently airing on BBC One.

Edison Spinola-Scott, three, landed the role after his mum, Louise, sent some modelling headshots to the production company behind the hit show.

She said: “I saw a Facebook post wanting children between aged two and three for a BBC production. I sent off Edison’s headshots and we received a call asking for us to go to the set in Cornwall in ten days time.

“I had no idea what sort of role he’d been given, and we only found out it was Poldark after arriving at the basecamp in Cornwall and seeing the actors and set.”

The first series of the show aired in March 2015.

Based on the first two 1940s Winston Graham novels of the same name, the show stars Aidan Turner as title character Ross Poldark, who returns to a much-changed 18th century Cornwall after three years in the army to avoid charges of smuggling.

Mother-of-four Louise, 30, said: “I watched the first series, and really got into it, but obviously we’re big fans now.

“I can’t reveal anything about Edison’s role, and it’s absolutely killing me. All I can say is that it’s a big role for such a little guy.”

Six months of filming for the second series began in September 2015, and Edison was surprised by cast members on his third birthday whilst filming on set in January.

Louise added: “The director shouted “cut”, and they brought out a lovely birthday cake and card signed by all the cast for Edison. He loved being the centre of attention.

“It was astounding how quickly he took to everything.

“He understood he was working, and had to listen to what he was being asked to do, and he just took it all in his stride.

“We’re not sure when his episodes will air, but when he’s on, we’ll invite family and friends round to all watch together.”
