Olympic silver medallist Sam Cross has paid primary school pupils in Oakdale a visit to open their new Multi Use Games Area (MUGA).

Sam Cross was part of the Team GB Rugby Sevens side which won silver at the Rio Olympics earlier this summer, and the 24-year-old visited Rhiw Syr Dafydd Primary School, Oakdale, on Friday, September 9.

The school’s MUGA will develop the playground area into a court which can be used for a variety of different sports, including hockey, netball, football, and cricket.

The school held a sponsored event throughout the summer to fundraise for the new area, reaching an impressive £8,000 total.
