Islwyn MP Chris Evans backs Pontllanfraith post office campaign

News | | Published: 11:00, Tuesday September 20th, 2016.

Islwyn MP Chris Evans has called on the Post Office to take action to avoid branch closures by providing commercial help to struggling branches.

Post office closures in Wales were the topic of the Westminster Hall debate, which took place on Tuesday September 13.

The Islwyn MP made the point that some branches fail as they do not receive enough commercial assistance or business advice from the Post Office and urged the company to provide more support.

The Islwyn MP also paid tribute to a campaign, run by local Pontllanfraith Councillors Gez Kirby, Mike Adams and Colin Gordon to return a post office to the community after recent closures, which has attracted more than 440 backers.

He said: “Post offices are closing across Wales and the whole country. In my own constituency several have closed or come near to closing over the past several years after becoming financially unviable.”

I hope the post office stays, but what a cheek for labour politicians to try and gain capital out of it when their record on post offices while in government was appalling.
