A Cardiff hotel has donated more than £2,000 to a Caerphilly town primary school for a new minibus.
The Radisson Blu Hotel presented the donation to staff and students from St James Primary School, at a ceremony at the hotel.
St James Primary School pupils include several children with mobility difficulties, and some wheelchair users.
At present, some of the children are unable to make use of the school minibus and miss out on school trips. A new minibus that is specifically designed for pupils with mobility difficulties has been much needed by the school.
The Radisson Blu Hotel felt that it was such a good cause, it decided to help raise funds and hosted a series of different fundraising events during the last year, including entering a team in the Cardiff Half Marathon, a cake sale, quiz nights, as well as small collections and donations made by guests staying at the hotel.
Paul Samuel, headteacher of St James Primary School, said: “We are thrilled with the donation from the Radisson Blu. The team at the hotel has worked really hard to raise this money for us, and it will make such a difference to our pupils.
“On behalf of the staff and pupils of St James, I’d like to thank the Radisson Blu’s staff and guests, as with their support we now hope to be able to buy a new minibus later this year.”
Jean-Marc Poumel, general manager of the Radisson Blu Hotel Cardiff said: “Our team members were delighted to be given the opportunity to help the school, as it is such a worthy cause.
“We feel that it is very important for the hotel to get involved with the local community and where possible to offer support by giving something back.”
