THAI-DY: The fundraising night at Penallta Rugby Club mixed cultures from Britain and Thailand

A fundraiser which fused British and Thai cultures in aid of Cancer Research Wales has raised over £2,000.

Organised by Gillian Orr, and Lak Donovan, the evening began with music from acoustic duo Tyler and Green, before the 200 attendees were treated to a mixed buffet of British and Thai cuisines.

Gillian and Lak originally met in 2006 at ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes at Coleg y Cymoedd, Ystrad Mynach, where Gillian was Chiangrai-born Lak’s tutor.

The pair, who now are firm friends, combined their two heritages for the fundraising night, which was held at Penallta Rugby Club, in Ystrad Mynach, on Saturday July 2.

The evening continued with a traditional Thai dance display (pictured), and was rounded-off with music from South Wales folk band, Ofelia.

A grand total of £2,030 was raised for Cancer Research Wales.
