Police appeal after man sustains “serious facial injuries” in rugby match

West Mercia Police is appealing for information after a man was assaulted during a rugby game which involved Rhymney Valley RFC.

The incident took place at around 2.15pm on Saturday August 27, at Ledbury RFC, Ross Road, Ledbury.

A 24-year-old man, alleged to be playing for Ledbury against Rhymney, was assaulted 15 minutes into the game. He sustained serious facial injuries and was taken to Hereford A&E. He later required surgery at the Worcester Royal Hospital.

Officers investigating the incident would like to speak to anyone who attended the match between Rhymney Valley RFC and Ledbury RFC, and who may have witnessed the incident to try and establish the circumstances surrounding it.
