Candidates announced for Risca East and Gilfach by-elections

Residents will be going to the polls on Thursday, October 6, in two county borough council by-elections.

Voters in Risca East will be deciding on their new representative following the election of former Labour councillor Rhianon Passmore to the Assembly as member for Islwyn.

Gilfach ward is holding a by-election following the retirement of veteran councillor and ex-council leader Harry Andrews.

Candidates in Risca East are: Matthew Farrell (Plaid Cymru); Matthew Kidner (Liberal Democrats); Arianna Passmore (Labour); and Joe Smyth (UKIP).

Candidates in Gilfach are: Andrew Creak (Green); Glenys Griffiths (UKIP); Lindsey Harding (Labour); and Ken Houston (Plaid Cymru).
