Police have issued a fresh appeal for information after a large fire destroyed the former clubhouse of a rugby team in Deri.

Officers from Gwent Police are seeking information regarding a blaze at the old club building on New Road, Deri, which they believe was set deliberately and raged for nearly 12 hours.

Two crews from South Wales Fire and Rescue’s Aberbargoed station attended the clubhouse, which had been home to Deri RFC’s mini section but was disused, after receiving reports of the blaze at around 9.20pm on Friday, September 2.

The fire was finally extinguished at around 8.53am on Saturday September 3.

While no one was hurt, the fire is being treated as arson.

Anyone with information relating to the incident can call Gwent Police on 101, quoting log 541 02/09/16.
