A conservation group from Caerphilly has reached the finals of the Sustain Wales Awards.
Gwern y Domen Conservation Group has been nominated for the Sustainable Community award, given to groups or projects which have achieved positive change within their communities.
The group was set up to protect and encourage growth on the land between Caerphilly and Rudry.
The group was vocal in its opposition to Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Draft LDP, and has sought to highlight the importance of environmental sustainability through educational events, such as wildflower tours, bat and moth spotting events, and a tea-party in the meadows.
BBC wildlife presenter Iolo Williams said: “Heartiest congratulations to the Gwern y Domen Conservation Group for being chosen as finalists in the Sustain Wales awards. Your commitment in fighting for the wildlife-rich green spaces on the edge of Caerphilly against all the odds is an example to us all.
Winners will be announced on Thursday November 17.
