A mother from Caerphilly has demanded an apology from bus operator Stagecoach, after her young son was left with a swollen ear having been thrown from his feet as the bus pulled away before he could sit down.
Dana Angus, 24, was out shopping in Caerphilly town with her partner and three-year-old son Rowan, when they boarded a 50 service bus from Pontygwindy Road towards the top of the town centre on Saturday, October 22.
Before the family could take a seat, the bus pulled away from the stop, causing Rowan to lose his balance and bang his head on the steps in the middle of the vehicle.
Ms Angus said: “Rowan likes to sit at the back of the bus, so we were walking towards the seats but the bus starting moving before we were sat down and he smacked his head on the step.
“He was screaming and crying, but the driver didn’t stop, he just kept on going as if nothing was wrong.
“When we got off the bus, I told the driver ‘You want to be more careful, our son smacked his head’, but he didn’t even apologise.”
Ms Angus rang Stagecoach, who advised her to supply an injury claim.
She added: “Things could have been much worse had he not been wearing a hat, or if he had hit his face.
“I want an apology. The driver should have been looking in his mirrors to check everyone had sat down, or at least said sorry.”
A spokesperson for Stagecoach in South Wales said: “We are sorry to hear of an incident incurring injury on one of our vehicles, and hope that the child is on his way to a swift recovery.
“The matter in question is under investigation and will be dealt with through the appropriate company procedures.”
