Motorists using Llanbradach to avoid morning traffic, claim Plaid Cymru councillors

Motorists are using the village of Llanbradach as a “rat run” to beat increasing peak-time morning congestion on the busy A469 road, say Plaid Cymru ward councillors.

Councillors Colin Mann and Rob Gough are demanding action from council officers and Gwent Police to ease the plight of villagers.

Cllr Mann said: “The Llanbradach bypass was originally constructed to ensure residents would no longer have to put up with the vast amount of traffic travelling up and down the valley. It made life a misery for local people.

“But what is happening now is that there is congestion through the village every weekday morning, with drivers on their way south down the valley diverting off the bypass to try to beat congestion. They are using the village as a rat run.

“It has got to such a state that some drivers are even using back lanes in Llanbradach, as well as the main village road, as a short cut.”

A meeting is set to take place with senior council officers in the village on Wednesday, November 2.

A council spokeswoman said: “Officers will be attending the meeting and have been working with the local members and police colleagues over recent months and will continue to in order to try and find a resolution”.

    About time – but you also need to look at the excessive speed of vehicles travelling in both directions, along Caerphilly Road from The Rise Estate to Bluebell View.
    This section of road needs monitoring plus a 30 mph restriction.

    This was a problem before the by pass was concieved, the by pass was built to simply EASE not CUT the traffic using the road through the town, it has done that, however due to the failure to provide free parking at all railway stations north of Caerphilly, and the increasing bottleneck designed by local highways staff, ( the real culprit has now retired) at the Corbetts Roundabout the situation WILL get worse, the problems caused by the CCBC in the past will now be uncreasingly highlighted, by increased traffic through Llanbradach, and any restriction to the free passage of traffic through the town will only make an already intollerable traffic snarl up on the south side of the by pass every day, doubly worse. before officers of the highways section and two local Councillors start to try to apply restriction on traffic through the town they will need to consider all paripheral issues and any impact their sweetheart deals may result in on the Boroughs ratepaying car travelling citizens going about thier lawabiding lives.

    Once self-driving cars are sorted – have an extra kip on the way to work…

    I’ve got the answer to this problem.

    I mentioned it a couple of months ago.

    Stop centralising all job creation, infrastructure developments in Cardiff and redirect them back up the valleys.

    I originally stated that you need the jobs to be within a reasonable distance to the homes of the staff but someone on here (can’t think who) told me I wasn’t being realistic and centralised industries in the capital were all the rage.
