Residents and local businesses have pledged more than 2,000 gifts to disadvantaged children this Christmas as part of the council-run Operation Santa appeal.

The project is Caerphilly County Borough Council’s annual drive to support local children and provide them with a range of toys and gifts.

Children who receive the toy donations have been nominated by the council’s social services department and includes children involved with local support organisations.

This year, the council will be providing gifts to more than 670 children, meaning each child will receive at least three gifts each.

Hampers have also been arranged for 76 older children and young people who are leaving care and moving on to independent living.

Dust and Things and Creditsafe were two of many local businesses to contribute to the project.

Dust and Things, a business specialising in bespoke engraved gifts, put together 50 hampers containing long-life essential food items and numerous Christmas treats.

Mike Chamberlain, owner of Dust and Things, said: “We’re very passionate about supporting young adults, and the Operation Santa appeal is a fantastic way to give newly independent adults a reminder that they’re not alone and that their community is there for them.”

Employees of Creditsafe donated over 440 gifts, and welcomed Mayor Cllr Dianne Price to their Caerphilly office to collect the gifts, pictured.

Rachel Mainwaring, UK Operations Director at Creditsafe, said: “Christmas is such a special time, especially for children, which is why we’re thrilled to once again be working with the council to give gifts to children that may not otherwise have received any this Christmas.”

A council spokesperson said: “We would like to say a big thank you to all the residents across the area who supported this year’s appeal. We have also received fantastic support from local schools and businesses who have all helped make this year’s appeal the biggest and best ever.”
