Assembly Members vote in favour of Wales Bill

AMs have voted in favour of the UK Government’s Wales Bill, which would give the Assembly further devolved powers.

The Bill fundamentally changes the nature of the devolution settlement with a move to a reserved powers model.

This lists the policy areas that the UK Parliament still has responsibility for, with everything else devolved.

However, there have been claims the Bill, if passed, would reduce Wales’ law-making powers.

First Minister Carwyn Jones recommended AMs vote for the bill, saying it could be improved.

Plaid Cymru voted against, over fears the Bill would roll-back powers, while UKIP voted against as it would devolve income tax without a referendum.
