A footbridge in Caerphilly described as a “public eyesore” is set to be demolished.
The footbridge, which links Greenwood Court and Trevelyan Court in Lansbury Park, Caerphilly, to the road towards Castle Court shopping centre will be demolished and replaced with new lengths of footpaths and dropped kerbs.
More than 86% of residents surveyed agreed with Caerphilly County Borough Council’s plans to demolish the bridge, after a report stated that the bridge – which was built in the 60s – would need considerable repair.
The demolition is expected to begin in March and take up to five weeks.
Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Dave Poole, said: “We have listened to resident’s views and are taking action on their behalf. The removal of the bridge will greatly improve the general look of the estate and compliment the exterior works currently in progress.”

They are to be congratulated on taking the measures to get rid of this eyesore. But they’re doing it primarily not because it’s ugly, but because it’s in severe disrepair. And you have to wonder why they ever allowed it to get into that state.
