Residents reminded to register to vote before deadline

News | | Published: 13:00, Wednesday March 15th, 2017.

Residents have been reminded to ensure they are registered to vote ahead of May’s local elections.

Caerphilly County Borough Council is urging residents to register by Thursday April 13 or face not being able to vote.

The elections on Thursday, May 4, will see county borough and community councillors elected in 33 county wards and 64 community wards.

Caerphilly County Borough Council has been under a Labour leadership since the last elections in 2011, and has never been held by a party in consecutive elections since its creation in 1996.

Full details of how to register to vote can be found at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

For more information or assistance on the electoral registration process visit www.caerphilly.gov.uk or call the Electoral Services helpline on 01443 864 203.

Use your vote wisely, remember that the current Labour administration in our local authority presided over the senior officers pay scandal……

A pay scandal that is currently costing EVERY household in Caerphilly £57 and rising, this is unacceptable and shows utter contempt for the residents of Caerphilly County Borough, enough is enough they need booting out.

Paul, you are quite right and I wholly agree with your comments.
Come the election in May, residents of Caerphilly Borough will have the opportunity to remove the ruling Labour party, who seem in no hurry to get the matter finalised.
If residents vote in Labour for another term then it will be on their own heads – it will be no good them moaning a few months on.
In the current climate there can be no room for a group of controlling elected members who waste our funding in such a way.

Correct but don’t forget that Plaid Cymru are equally culpable. The secret remuneration committee also had Plaid representation in the shape of the deputy leadert of the Plaid group. I do not agree with secret committees, in fact the Audit office for Wales declared it illegal. If elected I promise that I will never become party to such a committee on any issue whatsoever. The people are our paymasters and it is they who we as councillors answer to.

Quite true – neither Labour or the Plaid Cymru representative had the courage to speak up against the process.
Whichever party holds power after the May election we need representatives who are ethical and accept that they are accountable to local residents as their paymasters.
Unfortunately some elected members appear to think they are a law unto themselves and can act and do as they like.
They must remember that it is the residents who hold any perceived power – they are merely the elected spokespersons for the wards they represent.

Labour are in no hurray to resolve this because they know of the implications it will bring, labour hopefully will be voted out, however the party that gets into power next will have to deal with the scandal, it’s then labour will pounce and say how badly that party has resolved the scandal and say it was that party fault for the way it was dealt with. Labour is now unelectable under their leader Corbyn it’s time the other parties jump at this chance and show the people how bad labour are.

Yes they will use any incoming party as a scapegoat for their misdeeds
