Award-winning beers from across the globe will be available at The Malcolm Uphill in Caerphilly during a 12-day beer festival.

The Wetherspoons pub on Cardiff Road, Caerphilly, will be serving up to 20 beers from Italy, Brazil, Holland, the USA, and the UK during the festival, which runs from Wednesday March 22 until Sunday April 2.

All beers will be priced at £2.19 a pint, and customers will be able to sample any three of the real ales in special third-of-a-pint glasses for the price of a single pint.

Several unusual flavours will be present in some of the beers, including blackberries, coffee, lemon and lemongrass.

Pub manager, John Stephens, said: “We are promising our customers a superb range of award-winning ales, including some great beers from overseas and many others from brewers across the UK.

“The festival will be the perfect way for real ale enthusiasts to enjoy a range of excellent beers over 12 days.”

At the risk of generalisation those that drink real beer, which is what this festival celebrates, do not cause any problems in the town. They are attracted by the rich variety of flavours of the various beers and do not go out with the intention of becoming inebriated, often using a half pint glass. I’m sure that this celebration will not lead to incresed drunkeness, it’s been happening every year for the past five years.

What about supporting Welsh brewers. We have some superb Welsh craft beers right here in South Wales, Tudor Brewery, Untapped Brewing Co, Rhymney Brewery, Tomos a Lilford. Shop local / Support local business. This is an exercise in promoting the pub, we should champion what is on our own doorstep, and if you want to taste some fabulous ( local ) beers head to the Gravity Station in Cardiff.
