Maesycwmmer butcher wins second award

Business, News | | Published: 17:01, Friday March 24th, 2017.

Young Welsh Butcher of the Year Sam Hughes has been named Foundation Apprentice of the Year by a training firm.

Sam, 22, from Llanbradach and who works for Brian Crane Butchers in Maesycwmmer, was given the award at the inaugural Cambrian Training Company Apprenticeship, Employment and Skills Awards 2017 held at the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells on March 9.

He has made rapid progress, winning the Young Welsh Butcher of the Year in 2016, achieving a Foundation Apprenticeship and now moving on to an apprenticeship.

Sam said: “When I dropped out of university, I never thought I would be winning awards like this.

“My confidence has been boosted during my time as an apprentice, as it has removed the huge amount of stress I was under. I was afraid I would always be stuck in part-time employment with no security but completing my apprenticeship has given me great confidence in my future.

Well done ! Excellent achievement – plus helping to keep the skills of butchery alive in the age of pre-packed everything.
