A volunteer is helping to raise money for Caerphilly Workmen’s Hall by running in the London Marathon next month.
Kathy Lye, who is chair of the hall’s management committee, said: “I’m not a natural runner, but if I want people to support the hall, I have to put my money where my mouth is, and so I applied for a place in the London Marathon.”
In the past couple of years, Kathy has taken part in the Caerphilly 10K and the Cardiff Half Marathon, but she says this is her biggest challenge to date.
“However long it takes me to complete, it will be a personal best,” she joked, “but I am hoping to finish in under six hours. Otherwise, all the supporters will have gone home.”
The committee is aiming to find enough funding to refurbish Caerphilly Workmen’s Hall so that the town can have a community venue for social and entertainment events. Their priority is to raise enough money to fix the roof.
Kathy added: “The Workmen’s Hall doesn’t receive any financial support from the council, so if I can raise at least £1,000, it will help us to start making a difference.”

Well done and good luck – refreshing to see someone with a CAN DO attitude in the era of Brexit doom & gloom.
