The demolition of a public footbridge in Caerphilly is in full swing, after a report concluded it was in disrepair.
The footbridge, which links Greenwood Court and Trevelyan Court in Lansbury Park, Caerphilly, to the road towards Castle Court shopping centre will be demolished and replaced with new lengths of footpaths and dropped kerbs.
Demolition started on March 20 and the overall work is expected to take up to five weeks to complete.
Described as a “public eyesore”, more than 86% of residents surveyed agreed with Caerphilly County Borough Council’s plans to demolish the bridge, after a report stated that the bridge – which was built in the 60s – would need considerable repair.
However, one resident contacted Caerphilly Observer to convey her disappointment over the work.
Shaunnagh Louise said: “That bridge has so many memories that have been taken away. It meant a lot to so many people and they didn’t take that into consideration.
“I completely understand that they have surveyed and everybody has voted for this to happen, but the only reason people have voted for this is because they haven’t been in Lansbury Park long enough to know how much that bridge means to everybody.”

Come on!?
I know, I have to say I lol’d at that earlier.
That bridge was more than a walkway , It was part of history and Caerphilly council seem to get enjoyment out iff taking history away from Caerphilly , The reason it was taken down was not because it was ugly but was because Caerphilly council did not maintain the bridge and left it get into a bad way and then it was cheaper to pull it down than to repair it , Caerphilly council once agin showing there ignorance
