Nelson RFC Juniors have received a welcome boost to their coffers after receiving over £2,000 from a local supermarket.

Last September the Co-operative store on Mafon Road, Nelson, launched a membership scheme which saw three chosen community groups receive 1% in rewards every time a Co-op member card was swiped in its store.

Along with the rugby club, Cylch Meithrin and Treharris Area Community Trust (TACT) also received cash injections totalling £7,630.

Store manager Chris Whitton said: “We understand how difficult it is for local groups when it comes to raising funds and would like to thank everyone who has swiped their member cards over the last six months.

“If any other local group would like to discuss how we could work in partnership with you to support the local community then please come into the store to discuss.”

Good to see local businesses supporting the local community

Yes it is, pity the local council can’t support the local community.

Yes I agree – perhaps the Co- Op could teach the council a thing or two,
like how to run things efficiently and make a profit.
