It’s a catch! Residents encouraged to try their hand at fishing at Cwmcarn morning sessions

Cwmcarn Angling Association has begun its annual Saturday morning fishing sessions for people to have a go.

Children and people of all ages and abilities are welcome to visit Cwmcarn Lake between 10am and 12pm. For just £3, all equipment is provided and help and guidance is available from association members – who all give up their time for free.

Chris Horswill, Secretary of Cwmcarn Angling Association, said: “The Saturday morning club has now been running for about six years and it’s a great way to introduce yourself to angling.

“We’re all volunteers, but it is worth it to see children’s faces when they catch a fish for the first time.

“We’ll supply everything – all the gear, all the bait. The only reason we have to charge is to cover insurance.”

Gareth Hambly, 60, from Tir-y-Berth, has been going to the sessions for the last four years. As a wheelchair user, he uses the special platform built at the lake.

He said: “I really enjoy the fishing and the support I get is really helpful.”

Cwmcarn Angling Association meets every Saturday morning at Cwmcarn Lake, in Cwmcarn Forest, between 10am and 12pm until the end of October. The cost is just £3 a session.
