Twenty-year-old Sacha Gilman had a double reason to celebrate recently after being named overall winner of Wales’ premier event for hair and beauty talent in Cardiff.

Sacha, who works for Captiva Spa, Caerphilly, won the coveted award at Salon Cymru just a week before she is due to complete her apprenticeship.

She said: “I just can’t believe it and I feel so chuffed after working so hard,” was her immediate reaction to the award.

“It’s the last time I can compete at Salon Cymru because I finish my apprenticeship soon. Out of all the competitions I do, Salon Cymru is my favourite because it’s a realistic competition.”

In addition to the kudos of the award, Sacha won a weekend break in Trecco Bay, Porthcawl, courtesy of new sponsor Park Dean Resorts, and a trophy.

Salon Cymru is organised by Bridgend-based ISA Training, the largest independent hair and beauty training provider in Wales.

Top hairdressing and beauty talent from across Wales attended the dynamic annual event in the capital to showcase their creative skills.
