The British and Irish Lions kick-off their New Zealand tour on June 3 with their first match, and a Rhymney-based sports firm will be helping the team aim for glory.

Pro Athlete Supplementation (PAS) is an official supplier to the British and Irish Lions rugby team and will supply all performance nutrition products and hydration to Warren Gatland’s men.

Set up in 2006 by Performance Nutritionist Jon Williams BSc and former Olympic Sprinter Darren Campbell MBE, the firm already supplies the Welsh Rugby Union, last year’s Premier League champions Leicester City FC and the Football Association of Wales.

Paul Stridgeon, head of strength and conditioning for the British and Irish Lions 2017 said: “For us there was only one choice in performance nutrition.

“PAS has a proven track record at the elite levels of sport in providing products that can enhance recovery and improve performance.

“PAS have also been able to formulate and make products, which will help with our specific needs on tour to New Zealand. These will make up a valuable part of our performance protocols (from bespoke recovery shakes, immunity products and a night time recharge sleep formula).

“A Lions tour is extremely demanding both physically and mentally and we endeavour to give the players the maximum level of support to allow them to be at their best both on and off the field.”

Jon Williams, director and nutritionist at PAS added: “We are delighted to be teaming up with the British and Irish Lions and to become an Official Supplier. The Lions have unrivalled history, tradition and standing in world rugby and it is a very proud day for all of us at PAS. We would like to wish the team and the management the very best for the forthcoming Tour.”

PAS’ range has recently expanded with the addition of Real Deal protein Bars, Excel Gels, Pro Zero Cola (an electrolyte drink with added BCAAs) all of which will be utilized by the Lions.
