The family of a 15-year-old girl who died after police were called to a wooded area on the weekend have paid tribute to their “beautiful daughter”.

Shauna Davies, 15, of Caerphilly, died in the early hours of Sunday, June 18, after emergency services were called to a wooded area just off Caerphilly Mountain Road, Caerphilly town.

In a statement released via Gwent Police, the family said: “Shauna was a beautiful person inside and out, always bubbly, genuine and loyal to everyone. She was loved by so many people, she loved her brother and sister and friends and was fiercely loyal to them. She will be missed by so many.

“We were very proud parents. Fly high our beautiful daughter.”

Police are looking at whether drugs were a contributing factor.

Four other people were taken to hospital for checks and were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of drugs.

They have since been released pending further investigation.

The circumstances surrounding Shauna’s death are not yet known and Gwent Police said her family are being supported by specialist officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicola Brain, who is leading the investigation, said: “At this time enquiries are ongoing and the investigation into this young girl’s death is still in the early stages.

“During our work we will be looking into whether any substances have been a contributing factor into this incident, however this is just one of our lines of enquiry at this time.

“A post mortem examination will be carried out to determine the exact cause of death. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this time.”

Friends have also been paying tribute to Shauna online via social media.

One friend posted on Facebook: “Shauna I love and miss you already. Please come back angel we’ll be lost without you. Always stuck up for me in school.”
