The Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough recently launched his charity appeal with a flying start.

Cllr John Bevan hosted the launch event at Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Ty Penallta headquarters in Tredomen, and raised £3,001 in just one evening.

The two charities chosen by Cllr Bevan, who represents the Moriah ward, are Cancer Research Wales and Cardifac Risk in the Young (CRY) in memory of Jack Thomas.

In February 2012, her 15-year-old Jack died unexpectedly from a suspected undiagnosed heart condition.

Cllr Bevan said: “I am pleased that I have had such a positive response to my charity appeal, it has only been a few weeks and we have already raised a good amount. I would like to thank everyone who attended the launch and helped to raise the much needed funds to support these worthy causes.”

To donate to the Mayor’s charity appeal please call Joy Thomas, the Mayor’s Assistant, on 01443 864360.

A worthy charity and I hope they raise a lot of money. However do we really need a mayor in Caerphilly in these tuff times, they would be far better giving the money he gets from expenses and giving that to charity
