A PhD politics student from Caerphilly has received a prestigious award to study on one of the world’s most highly-regarded scholarship programmes.
Jac Larner, a former St Cenydd School pupil, will travel to America to continue his Doctorate at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, after receiving an All-Disciplines Fulbright Award.
Jac, who studies at the Wales Governance Centre at Cardiff University, said: “It is an incredible honour to have been selected for the programme, which will provide me with an unique opportunity to work on with world-leading experts in my field of study.
“I hope to use the skills I acquire during this time to help develop a better understanding of politics, elections and public opinion here in Wales and beyond.”
As part of his scholarship, Jac will be based at the Center for Political Studies at the University of Michigan –
the home of the American National Election Study, which, since 1948, has tried to explain the outcome of various elections.
The Acting Director of the Wales Governance Centre at Cardiff University, Professor Roger Scully, said: “This scholarship will help Jac develop his academic skills further in a thriving academic environment in the US.
“The award that he has received, in what is an incredibly competitive field, is testament to Jac’s abilities and I wish him the best of luck as he ventures across the Atlantic.”
