A 22-year-old man has been arrested after armed police were called to Caerphilly bus station.

Gwent Police received a call from a member of the public at around 6.20pm this evening with reports of a man on a bus with a suspected weapon.

Chief Inspector Carl Williams, of Gwent Police, said: “There was an incident at the bus station where armed officers were deployed.

“No members of the public were hurt and no shots were fired.

“The investigation is ongoing but police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.”

“We are appealing for any witnesses to come forward quoting incident number 420 25/7/17.”

Six armed officers attended, but Ch Ins Williams said the man voluntarily got off the bus he was on.

Bus services at the station were affected, but have since returned to normal.

Congratulations Carl Williams. A good man. Caerphilly Observer needs a proof-reader though. 😮

They’ve been needing a proof reader for a very long time, but they won’t pay the wages for one.

We try our best on very limited editorial resources and recognise there is always room for improvement. We are an independent, locally-owned, publication without the backing of a big media company.

It’s not a case of “we won’t pay the wages”, if I could expand our editorial team then of course I would – but that costs money.

Maybe it’s time for us to have a conversation with our readers on how we can improve our award-winning service and whether or not they would be prepared to pay for it directly?

Please let me know your thoughts.

Caerphilly Observer does get their spelling, punctuation and grammar wrong. But, to be fair, on occasion when I do send in a polite correction, directly to the editor, the error is usually promptly rectified.
