The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that job centres in Bargoed and Blackwood towns will relocate to new premises.
In January, the UK Government announced plans to reform Jobcentre Plus offices and benefit centres, claiming 20% of office space was under-used.
Citing the fact that eight out of ten claims for Jobseeker’s Allowance are now made online, proposals included merging over 70 smaller Jobcentre Plus offices and closing 27 ‘back office’ buildings from 2018.
The DWP finally confirmed last month that Bargoed and Blackwood Jobcentres would be moving sites.
The Bargoed office will relocate from the High Street to the Lowry Plaza, next to Poundland, while in Blackwood, the new proposed premises is on the site of the former Aldi supermarket.
The new premises are 0.2 and 0.5 miles away respectively.
Damian Hinds, Minster for Employment, said: “We will always make sure that people have the support they need to get into and progress within work.
“These changes reflect the fact that more people access their benefits online resulting in many of our buildings being underused.”
