Former Plaid Cymru councillor Mike Prew has been praised for his work as Caerphilly’s Youth Champion.

Labour councillor Carl Cuss, Cabinet Member for Social Care and Wellbeing, led the tributes at a meeting of the full council.

Cllr Cuss said: “Can I pay tribute to the previous Youth Champion Mike Prew. Everyone would agree from all parties that he played a very vital role on the youth forum and his reputation speaks for itself. If you speak to the youth members, they speak very highly of him and we thank him very much for his service.”

Cllr Colin Mann, the leader of the Plaid Cymru group on Caerphilly Council, said: “Everyone would recognise the amazing job that he did.”

The council agreed the procedures for electing a new Youth Champion.

Mike Prew was first elected by young people as Youth Champion in 2008 and served until earlier this year.

Mr Prew, who sits on the committee of Caerphilly RFC, lost his Morgan Jones seat at this year’s council elections held in May.
