An 11-mile charity run between Caerphilly and Cardiff castles has raised more than £6,300.
Organised by running club Caerphilly Runners, the MegaRun Castle to Castle event was held on September 10, in aid of Velindre Cancer Centre as a sister event to the annual Megaday music festival – which took place last month.
The run, via the Taff Trail, was started by Olympic silver medallist and world champion runner Jamie Baulch.
Kylie McKee, the deputy head of fundraising at Velindre, said: “On behalf of Velindre I would like to thank everybody involved in the Castle to Castle MegaRun event last Sunday, which was a huge success raising over £6,000 for Velindre.
“To grow from 72 last year to 300 runners this year is a huge credit to all the organisers and volunteers who work tirelessly to put the event together, and the amount of money raised is a clear reflection of the hard work, dedication and commitment by the runners and their supporters.
“The atmosphere at the start was brilliant, to see so many people with huge smiles rearing to go on a very dreary Sunday morning was extremely inspiring.
“I would also like to thank the organisers of Megaday, which was another huge success this year, for coming along on Sunday to help. Their support of Velindre is relentless.
“Velindre is so lucky to have such wonderful support from the people of Caerphilly.”
