Llanbradach rail delays caused by “a trespassing mole”

UPDATE: Some further digging by British Transport Police and National Police Air Service officers has revealed the trespasser was… a mole.

The rail line has now fully reopened, with residual delays still expected after an hour’s disruption to services.

UPDATE: The Rhymney line is now reopen, hours ahead of schedule.

However, Network Rail is warning passengers “might experience some residual delays as services get back to normal.”

UPDATE: The incident at Llanbradach railway station is now believed to have been a “near miss with a trespasser”. National Police Air Service officers are working to confirm those reports.

Officers have carried out an extensive search with support from @WelshAmbulance and appears it may have been a near miss with a trespasser

A person has been hit by a train at Llanbradach station, causing delays and cancellations expected to last until 4pm.

A statement on the National Rail Enquiries website read: “A person has been hit by a train at Llanbradach, this is causing disruption to journeys between Rhymney and Cardiff Queen Street.

“Trains between these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes.”

A half-hourly train service will run between Caerphilly and Cardiff, with replacement bus services running between Rhymney and Caerphilly.

Stagecoach will also be operating between Caerphilly and Bargoed.

Earlier this month, two passengers were taken to hospital after a train hit a tree on the line near Llanbradach station.

    Did you see the number of police vehicles at scene?
    In future in an emergency to get a rapid response just tell them you’ve had a near miss with a mole !
