Police are appealing for information following an assault of a woman in New Tredegar.
At around 1pm on Sunday October 8, a woman was walking with another woman along the cycle track close to Bedwellty Road when they were approached from behind by a man on a bike.
The one woman was assaulted by the man before she screamed and he ran off with his bike.
Gwent Police are appealing for information to help find the wanted man. He is described as being around 30-years-old, of slim build with dark hair. He had a turn in his left eye and was wearing a blue jacket, blue trainers and had a dark blue or navy bike.
Investigations are ongoing and officers are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.
Detective Inspector Michelle Chaplin said: “These two ladies are safe and being supported by officers but are understandably shaken by this incident.
Officers are patrolling the area and investigations are ongoing. Even though this is an isolated incident, we’d like to offer the following advice: Try to avoid walking in isolated areas on your own, stick to main roads and paths; Try to carry a mobile phone with you and check it has charge before you leave the house; If someone is following you or you feel intimidated, shout for help and make your way to a busy area or shop; If you see someone suspicious hanging around the local area, please call 101 to report it, giving as full a description as possible including any clothing or vehicles involved.
“In an emergency, always call 999.
“If you did witness this assault or if you have any information that could help, please call 101 quoting log 330 10/10/17.”
Another day another attack on innocent people and yet another appeal for infomation related to this attack. When will the powers that be see we need more constables on our street, police at the moment are rarer than hens teeth. Not only do we not see police anymore but we dont see their pretend collgues who are also suppose to be on our streets from CPOs to the council wardens, we dont see anyone. Its time to look at why we are paying so much in council tax to fund these group of people. Lets see a return to old style policing where we have actual police on our streets keeping us safe, not wannabes.
Yes I totally agree Edward, these stories are now too common in society. I also think the powers that be need, to look at more suitable punishment for offenders, if and when these persons are caught, instead of idiotic ones that are meaningless and serve no purpose.
The lack of a presence of patrolling police officers means there is no deterrent to people committing these crimes.
Surely crime prevention is a major responsibility of policing ???
