A group of volunteers braved stormy winds and rain to help clean up a portion of wooded land in Graig-y-Rhacca.

Organised by the Lower Graig-y-Rhacca Community Association with support from Keep Wales Tidy and Trethomas Allotments Association, 13 volunteers defied Storm Brian to fill 32 bags of rubbish and debris on Saturday, October 21 from Redbrook Woods.

The volunteers were joined by Bedwas, Trethomas and Machen (BTM) county councillor, Lisa Phipps, and community councillors Amanda McConnell and June Winslade.

Chair of BTM Community Council, Cllr Chris Morgan, said: “We want to see this woodland opened up for the public. It is a fantastic amenity for all residents of Graig-y-Rhacca and in time we hope to restore it so that everyone can enjoy its beauty.”

Well done to all our involved. Maybe them council wardens can help out, it’s the only thing they can actually do.

Well done all – it would be nice if we could educate people to actually not dump rubbish /or to take their litter home and to have some pride in their local community.
