Police are appealing for information after a teenage girl was burnt by an exploding gas canister.
The 15-year-old, from Markham, was walking under the Bargoed flyover on the pathway towards Gilfach on Saturday, October 28 at around 5.30pm, with another girl, 16, and a 14-year-old boy.
The group noticed a small fire on the path, and as they passed it there was an explosion. The 15-year-old girl suffered burns to her face, neck, hands and stomach, and was taken to Morriston hospital in Swansea for treatment.
She has since been discharged.
Police said a camping gas canister was found in the ashes of the fire, and was believed to be the cause of the explosion.
Four boys were seen in the area shortly before the explosion and officers are trying to trace them to help with their enquiries.
Anyone with information on the incident can call Gwent Police on 101 quoting log number 289 29/10/17 or anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Very sad indeed. I hope the girl involved gets better soon and her injuries are not too bad. Once again we hooligan youths out of control in one of the valleys towns and this time an innocent girl and her friends were affected. Crime and anti social behaviour is out of control. We need constables on our streets to prevent this, not hobby bobbies like CPOs and council wardens.
Youngsters are always hanging around under the bridge – why aren’t the Police dealing with them and moving them ?
Luckily this young girl wasn’t killed.
There are growing gangs of youngsters hanging around many of our towns – making people afraid to go into these areas at night.
The problem needs to be addressed – as you say,we need coppers back on the beat.
I cant understand where have all the police gone, but its not only the police, we have no CPOs and no council wardens out and about any more no wonder things are going down the pan.
