Cancer Research Wales has opened its first charity shop in Caerphilly.

Caerphilly County Mayor John Evans officially opened the shop in Castle Court Shopping Centre, and served the first customer at its grand opening.

The charity is the mayor’s official charity after Councillor Evans’ own experience with cancer.

With its headquarters at Velindre Hospital in Cardiff, Cancer Research Wales funds pioneering research projects across the whole of Wales.

Liz Andrews, deputy director of fundraising at Cancer Research Wales, said: “We are really excited to be opening our first shop in Caerphilly.

“We’ve always had fantastic support from people in the Caerphilly area, and this is the next level of fundraising for us. All the money raised through the shop will help us to fight cancer, here in Wales.”
