Police are investigating after three men were spotted fighting at the Pwllypant roundabout in Caerphilly, in what is believed to be an incident of road rage.
Video footage of the fight, between the two occupants of a van and the driver of of a Volkswagan, has gone viral on social media after being uploaded to Facebook.
The fight broke out on the approach to the Pwllypant roundabout from Llanbradach – a key area of frustration for motorists where two lanes merge into one.
Council officers have advised motorists to use both lanes and merge in turn, but there have been reports of drivers waiting in the left hand lane blocking those in the right from merging. It is unclear if this is what triggered the fight, which happened yesterday afternoon, Thursday, November 16, at around 3.10pm.
A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: “At Around 3.10pm we received reports of a fight between three men following a two vehicle road traffic collision at the Cedar Tree Roundabout in Caerphilly.
“Both vehicles left the scene shortly after the incident. Officers are investigating and if anyone has any information about this please call 101 quoting log 276 16/11/17.”
There’s enough problems with the congestion caused by the roadworks,without idiot drivers like these fighting.
This is going to happen a lot over the next 12 months. I had a job in Maesycwmer today and seeing the traffic on the way back home opted to go down the A470 instead. Further but much better for my blood pressure.
On this particular instance of fighting I can’t understand the filming of it or the gloating commentary. Years ago people would either have broken the fight up or ignored it as none of their business. Strange times we live in.
This was bound to happen sooner or later, the road works have been a boiling pot for the last few weeks. Sadly nowadays people would rather watch a fight and film it then break it up. Disgusting but its the reality tv world we live in
Yes it is sad – it seems give some people a smart phone and they feel it qualifies them to become an instant journalist / news reporter.
It is indeed a sad state of affairs that people would rather film an incident like this rather than use their phone to call the police .
It also makes me wonder what the legality of filming people with out their permission and then posting it on the internet.
That’s a good point – also surely the police could request the identify of those posting the footage on social media as they would be witnesses and therefore required to provide a witness statement.
Those posting such evidence would do well to remember that.
As generations change values have also changed – and not always for the better,as this incident proves.
I too am from the generation – who would have either intervened or decided they didn’t want to get involved.
