A Caerphilly musician is to perform with one of Italy’s top jazz singers on an upcoming UK tour.

Carlo Fraccalvieri is a saxophonist originally from Matera, in southern Italy, and will be performing alongside vocalist Fabio Lepore.

Carlo, 42, who settled in Caerphilly with his Welsh-born wife Joanne in 2008, has helped organise the tour as part of a music project called Pausa Caffe and follows on from a previous tour two years ago.

Father-of-two Carlo, who recently graduated from Cardiff University with a degree in music and often performs jazz concerts, said: “With his tremendous range, Fabio is able to deliver fast be-bop lines with great clarity. A superb tone on the more relaxed material is something of a revelation. I am thrilled to be able to welcome him for the upcoming tour and am looking forward to performing with him on stage.

“Fabio has played across the globe and he has collaborated with Dionne Warwick, Jazz Studio Orchestra, BJL Big Band to name but a few. This show covers 80 years of rich and diverse Italian music revisiting some of the songs that have defined the Italian scene.

The repertoire is very engaging and suits perfectly Fabio’s voice.”

Joining Fabio and Carlo on stage will be Eastman Guitars artist Dino Plasmati, bassist Pasquale Votino and Eddie Jones West completing the band on drums.

The quintet tour heads to Bristol tonight – Friday, December 1 – and then Mojo in Newport on December 2. Following the last of the Welsh gigs, the tour heads to Torquay, Belfast and Swindon.
