His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales has been visiting Caerphilly today, Friday, December 8.
Prince Charles was met by cheering schoolchildren at the Caerphilly Miners Centre for the Community and took a tour of the building with volunteers who are fundraising to help transform the old Miners’ Hospital building.
Now a thriving community centre, the original Beeches building is used by around 1,500 visitors a month and has a host of activities there throughout the week.
Despite the historic building, which is not listed, being saved from demolition when the original hospital closed, funds are still needed to complete its transformation.
Following his visit to the Miners Centre, Prince Charles then walked to the Abbeyfield care home, of which he is a patron, on St Martin’s Road.
The Abbeyfield Wales Society manages 24 nursing homes across Wales, including two in Caerphilly, which aim to help elderly people living alone to retain their independence.
