Blackwood children’s home closed following staff suspensions

News | | Published: 14:03, Friday December 15th, 2017.

A children’s care home in Blackwood has been closed pending an investigation into “inappropriate” text messages sent by staff via WhatsApp.

Earlier this month, seven staff members were suspended from Coed Duon House, on St David’s Lane. Initially the home remained open with other staff drafted in by owners Keys Childcare.

Its two young residents have since been moved and the home has now closed while the investigation is carried out.

A spokeswoman for Keys Childcare said: “We immediately suspended a number of staff on being alerted to allegations relating to the inappropriate exchange of text messages in WhatsApp.

“The relevant authorities were also immediately notified in line with good practice and statutory requirements.

“This decisive action was taken in accordance with our robust policies and procedures and allows us to safeguard the young people in our care while we and the relevant authorities investigate the matter.”

Officials from Caerphilly County Borough Council have met with officers from Gwent Police, but the force is not involved in the investigation.
