Croespenmaen company donates toys to children’s charity Barnardo’s

News | | Published: 12:01, Thursday December 21st, 2017.

Vulnerable Caerphilly children supported by Barnardo’s Cymru will have a brighter Christmas thanks to a donation of toys from staff at Thermo Fisher Scientific.

More than 200 employees at the company’s Pen-y-Fan Industrial Estate site have been raising funds throughout the year so they could play Santa to the families helped by the charity throughout the county.

A bike, a toy kitchen and table top football were among a mountain of toys delivered to the charity in time for Christmas.

Laura Tomsa, Team Manager with Barnardo’s Cymru, said: “Many of our families experience financial difficulties which make Christmas a challenging and stressful time of the year.

“Having the support of Thermo Fisher has allowed us to provide families with gifts that will help to make their Christmas more special and enjoyable.

“We can’t thank them enough for their kind generosity and support over the past three years, they continue to help us provide a magical experience for the many families we work with.”

Sarah Woodward, HR Manager with Thermo Fisher Scientific, said: “I find it quite humbling how generous our employees are at Christmas, a time when they have a lot to buy themselves.

“They have put a lot of effort into fundraising throughout the year and have also donated toys and food for Barnardo’s. It’s important to us that they are distributed in the local community. Our employees love going down to the centre in Caerphilly and seeing the work Barnardo’s do.”
