Caerphilly’s Pontygwindy Road to partially close for three weekends in January because of Pwllypant roundabout works

Access to and from Caerphilly’s Pontygwindy Road will be blocked at the Pwyllypant roundabout for three weekends in January because of ongoing road works.

The road will close on the weekends of January 13, January 20 and January 27 next year. The closures will take place between 8am Saturdays until 6am Mondays.

In a statement, Caerphilly County Borough Council said: “As part of the roundabout improvement works, it is necessary to install separate trenches to carry out a drainage installation and lay services across Pontygwindy Road, which are essential elements of the scheme. Due to the proximity of this work to the exit from PwllyPant roundabout, it will be necessary to undertake these works under a full road closure to minimise delays and disruption on the roundabout.

“On these weekends there will be no access to Pontygwindy Road from PwllyPant roundabout, and it will be closed northbound at the junction with the access road leading to the Catnic Industrial Estate. Pedestrian access will be via the Pontygwindy Industrial Estate and the overbridge to Llanbradach. All diversion routes will be clearly signed. If disabled access is required during this time, residents are advised to contact a member of the site team to arrange an escorted access.

“Caerphilly County Borough Council would like to thank residents for their patience while this essential work is completed. For more information on the Pwll-y-Pant roundabout improvement scheme, please visit www.caerphilly.gov.uk/pwllypant.”

Ah, that explains the sweetener of opening 2 lanes in the run up to Christmas !
There just had to be a sting in the tail !

Didn’t we have to suffer this inconvenience earlier this summer as well?

      Yes, and it’s sheer incompetence.
Another example is todays icy weather – despite weather warnings many of Caerphilly’s main road system appears untreated, with black ice in many areas.
